About your Chef

Hazel B. Ramos-Cano began her career in the humanities, teaching, researching and directing programs in Child Development and Family Services. Before long, she started to make a shift to the culinary world by personally developing her skills while raising her family and taking all the necessary accreditations to establish her credibility in a highly competitive area. She cultivated her catering company which was born while she was still in graduate school. To know the whole gamut of the food world, she went and got trained as a Child Nutrition Manager, a requirement of the Public School System, on to Food Service Management required in the university food service system (UNC-Chapel Hill), then to Dietary Food Management, required in Nursing Home establishments. During these times, she taught culinary courses for eight years at the Community College in Wake County, NC. She also established a restaurant in downtown Raleigh, NC to actualize all these trainings. Moving to Abingdon, VA and acquiring two Inns and a huge restaurant (Withers Hardware Restaurant) encouraged her to be certified by the American Culinary Federation.

Today, she still keeps busy with occasional catering events, running the Victoria and Albert Inn and the Love House Bed and Breakfast, providing incredible and memorable breakfasts and dinners which beckon guests for return visits. She also teaches courses for "Cooking along the Crooked Road," a program offered by the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center and yes, occasional TV shows on our two regional TV stations.
